Apology and Report Regarding Blocking Overseas Access | 日本国外アクセス遮断についてのお詫びとご報告

Since around May of this year, due to excessive traffic, we received a warning from our internet service provider (ISP) and temporarily restricted access from outside of Japan. We sincerely apologize for implementing this restriction without prior notice on the site.
Traffic began to increase around April. When we investigated a few seconds of peak traffic extracted from our access logs, we found that requests were coming simultaneously from over 2,000 different IP addresses. We believe this situation, which lasted for several minutes, triggered the warning from our ISP. These IP addresses were located all over the world, which essentially points to a DDoS attack.
Since we had already enabled all available firewall settings provided by our ISP, it was difficult for us to take further countermeasures. In addition, as we were very busy during the first half of this year and could not spare the time, we ultimately decided to block access from outside Japan as a temporary measure.
Starting last month, we introduced Cloudflare and have been gradually easing the access restrictions. Due to overly strict settings, our site temporarily disappeared from Google search results, but those rankings are also gradually recovering.
Because much of the aforementioned heavy traffic was targeting old URLs prior to our site redesign, we have stopped the redirect process for those pre-redesign URLs.
Over the past few years, the way the web is used has changed, and a large portion of traffic is now related to AI. Furthermore, the use of AI has increased unexpected types of access.
This year has given us cause to reflect on our motivation to keep the site running, and the future of the web itself remains uncertain. However, as long as we have the motivation, we plan to continue running the site moving forward. Thank you for your continued support.

今年の５月頃よりしばらくの期間、アクセス過多によりプロバイダから警告を受け、日本国外からのアクセスを制限しておりました。サイト上の告知なく行ったことをお詫び申し上げます。
４月頃からアクセスが増え、アクセスログから特に集中していた箇所の数秒間を取り出し調査したところ、2000以上のIPアドレスから同時にアクセスされる状況となっていました。この状況が数分続いたことにより警告を受けたのかと考えています。IPアドレスは世界各地のものでいわゆるDDoS攻撃というやつですね。
契約プロバイダの設定にあるファイアウォール系はすべて有効にしていたため、これ以上対応が難しい状況でした。加えて今年上半期はこちらも多忙で時間を割くのが難しかったため、ひとまず国外からのアクセス遮断に踏み切った経緯です。
先月よりCloudflareを導入し、段階的にアクセスの遮断方法を緩和しております。厳しくしすぎた影響でGoogle検索からも消えてしまっていましたが、こちらも少しずつ戻ってきています。
前述の多数のアクセスはリニューアル前のURL参照が多かったことから、リニューアル前URLのリダイレクト処理は停止しています。
ここ数年でウェブの利用方法も変わり多くのアクセスがAI関連となっています。またAI活用により想定していない方法でのアクセスも増えております。
サイト継続へのモチベーションについて考えさせられる一年となっており、且つウェブの世界そのものがどうなっていくのか不透明となっていますが、とりあえずモチベーションがある限りはサイトを継続する選択を今後も取っていきますので、よろしくお願いいたします。
